Dr. Dennis Patrick Wood is a Clinical Psychologist in Coronado, California (CA). After graduating from the California School of Professional Psychology - San Diego (now Alliant University, https://www.alliant.edu/locations/san-diego-campus/) in July 1976, Dr. Wood returned to active duty in the US Navy at Balboa Navy Hospital in San Diego and in the US Navy Reserves. |
oIn 1980 Dr. Wood established a private practice in San Diego where he continued to provide psychological consultation services to adults and adolescents experiencing difficulties with depression, anxiety, chronic pain and trauma.
In 1982 Dr. Wood became a member of the Adjunct Facility, Department of Family Medicine, UCSD and he participated in the Medical School's seminar program teaching a class entitled "Interviewing, Death and Human Sexuality.”
In 1992 Dr. Wood joined the faculty of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver and provided consultation services in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Chronic Pelvic Pain Clinic. Between 1994 and 2000, Dr. Wood again enjoyed treating patients in his Denver practice, which was affiliated with Porter Memorial Hospital.
Since leaving active duty with the Navy in 1980, Dr. Wood had continued to be an active member of the U.S. Naval Reserves and he continued to be selected for positions of great responsibility and he was promoted to the rank of Captain in 1996. Two of his Command assignments included Officer in Charge, Naval Reserve Fleet Hospital Detachment, Denver and Commanding Officer, Naval Reserve Medical Detachment, Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Medical Plans and Policy, Pentagon, Arlington, VA.
In 2000 Dr. Wood, as a Naval Reserve Captain, was recalled to active duty and he was assigned to the Medical Department, USS Constellation (CV-64), an aircraft carrier stationed at Naval Air Station North Island, Coronado, CA (www.navysite.de/cvn/cv64.htm). During USS Constellation's last two Western Pacific deployments to the Persian Gulf, Dr. Wood was responsible for the various Navy endorsed mental health programs established not only onboard USS Constellation but also onboard the seven warships that were part of the USS Constellation Strike Group. During his two deployments, Dr. Wood participated in Operation Southern Watch and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following the retirement of the USS Constellation on August 7, 2003, Dr. Wood was released from active duty.
Dr. Wood is a consultant with the Virtual Reality Medical Center (www.vrphobia.com) and between 2006 and 2009, Dr. Wood participated in a research and treatment study at Naval Medical Center San Diego and Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, involving the treatment of combat veterans, who had been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), with Virtual Reality Graded Exposure Therapy.
